86.000.000 Tunnel Passages

Only two months have passed since we celebrated our 85 millionth tunnel driver. It’s hard to believe, but it’s already time for another successor. Shortly after half past nine in the morning, Ms Haß from Rostock was given the honour of passing through the Warnowtunnel.

The young lady was very open to the rather spontaneous information about the chance hit she had just made with her vehicle in one of our automatic lanes. Some people react very excitedly when they are suddenly confronted by television cameras. But Mrs Haß moved her vehicle safely to the right-hand side of the carriageway and got out of the car confidently and happily. She fell right into the arms of tunnel mascot Otter Oscar, who had prepared a large, colourful bouquet of flowers for her. The tunnel’s marketing officer, Mr Robert Markfeld, presented her with a gift bag containing a fuel voucher worth €86, a Lions Club Warnemünde Advent calendar, a ten-ticket for ice skating at the Rostock ice rink and a few other small gifts. She then answered questions from members of the press. The campaign did not go unnoticed. Some car drivers honked their horns loudly to say that they would have loved to have been in the place of our lucky winner. Otter Oscar waved back and said: ‘Maybe on the 87 millionth journey!

Mrs Haß was travelling on business; she was on a long journey. She uses the tunnel regularly. For her work with children and young people from her job at ASB in Lütten Klein, she often takes the shortcut to save time compared to the traffic-intensive city centre. Her vehicle is fitted with an RFID strip in the windscreen – so she doesn’t even have to stop when driving through the Warnowtunnel toll station.

We would like to thank Mrs Haß for her regular use of the tunnel and wish her and all tunnel drivers a safe and pleasant journey at all times.
