An event of great importance for the Warnowtunnel was celebrated today when the 85 millionth driver, Mr Wolfgang Schelong, passed through the toll station.
In an unhurried ceremony, following a friendly tradition of the past twenty years, the happy driver was honoured with a beautiful and colourful bouquet of flowers and a number of gifts. He received an €85 petrol voucher, a Warnowtunnel flashy safety bag, a special infinity pen and a few other small gifts. The Managing Director of Warnowquerung GmbH & Co. KG, Mrs Yvonne Osterkamp, was quick to congratulate and personally presented the gifts. Tunnel mascot Otter Oscar was also on hand and also presented a large gift basket with lots of small delicacies. The anniversary celebrant from Rostock was delighted. ‘The flowers will find a nice place in my garden.’
For Mr Schelong, the tunnel is a significant time saver. ‘It’s the quickest way through Rostock,’ he said confidently to the television camera. For example, when he drives from his home in the north-west of Rostock to his garden in Krummendorf, as he did today. He uses a small technical refinement in his car – with the RFID strip in the windscreen, he saves time even when driving through the toll station and never has to worry about his credit thanks to the direct debit system.
The traditional ceremony reflects the appreciation and gratitude towards the users who use the tunnel every day and contribute to its enduring history. In particular, we would like to thank Mr Wolfgang Schelong for his continuous use of the tunnel and wish him and all tunnel drivers a safe and pleasant journey at all times.
